Basil is a popular and often used herb. Besides being wonderfully aromatic, the lush dark green leaves are a nice contrast in the garden and can easily be preserved.
How to use Basil: You can add fresh basil leaves to salads for an extra burst of flavor. It also works great in pasta sauces, giving them a delicious, aromatic kick. You can even make a simple basil pesto by blending it with garlic, pine nuts, olive oil, and Parmesan cheese. Note: Keep basil in a cool place with good air circulation. If it starts to wilt, you can trim the ends and place it in a glass of water, like you would with cut flowers, and it should perk up. Maintenance: Basil likes plenty of sunlight but not scorching heat. Water it regularly, keeping the soil slightly moist but not waterlogged. Harvest the leaves regularly to encourage new growth. This will help keep your basil plant healthy and productive.
